Clifden and its hinterland is to become the first Local Digital Economy thanks to the Clifden and Connemara Chamber of Commerce. Working with the EU and local government agencies spearheaded by the Chamber a group of EU officials announced the project on 21st Feb in Clifden.
The EU officials will be working in conjunction with the Clifden and Connemara Chamber of Commerce in this pilot project. It is intended to enable all business in the west Connemara area to promote and sell their products and services online and to foster a focus on technological communications.
Welcoming the project Clifden and Connemara Chamber of Commerce President Brian Hughes said:
"The Connemara Local Digital Economy will fundamentally change the Connemara economy. Up to this we have had to rely too heavily on a 13-15 week tourist season. We decided, in this era of recession and austerity that we had to find a way to use what we have better. We need to be open for business for anyone, anywhere, at any time who wants to buy Connemara products and services. That is what the Connemara Local Digital Economy will allow us to do in 2012 and beyond."
Lightnet are looking forward to working help this programme reach its potential by providing excellent broadband connections.
