This year Lightnet is 15 years in operation, this milestone is a hugely proud moment for the company and all its staff. Lightnet started back in 2006 on Inish Bofin to bring broadband to the island. From there a network infrastructure grew thought-out Connemara and Galway via local broadband schemes and communities and developed into a fully self-managed network.
As the demand for broadband increased, the company began to grow. By 2009 our coverage extended in the west and north Clare, Aran Islands, part of east Galway and the company office was set up in a room of one of the directors’ houses. In 2011 such was the demand for our services the company moved to new offices in Loughrea and had to hire additional staff. Over the next years, the company’s network coverage grew with coverage throughout county Galway and expanding further into Clare and bordering countries such as Tipperary, Mayo, and Roscommon. Lightnet’s reputation flourished so did the company’s growth. The company embraced new advances in technology, and in 2014 saw another big move into custom-designed offices in Loughrea to accommodate our growing staff numbers.
In 2016 we developed and broadened our services, giving customers significantly higher broadband speeds, VOIP phone services and access to wi-fi hardware. Since then, we have significantly invested in our network, implementing a network-wide upgrade to the most advanced technologies along with the integration of fibre platforms. All of which allowed us to offer increased speeds and nationwide coverage.
Our network capacity has substantially increased, with the ongoing development of fibre rollout to transmitter sites underway. Our drive to embrace innovation has led us to work with technology partners to enhance our product range, offering a complete solution and being recognised as an industry specialist.
We continuingly acknowledge the importance of our customers to us and over the years have streamlined and enhance our customers journey including reduced await call times and focus on communicating with our customers, transparent and honest pricing plans along with quality and professionalism of our delivery.
We have always recognised our roots and how important local communities are to us and the staff. Throughout the years we have tried to sponsor as many events, teams, schools and charities as we can and take pride in our continued involvement in local communities.
In 2021, further, expansion has led to more recruitment with 7 further new job roles to be filled this year.
